2XL programme

The Award winning X-it Programme is being rolled out across Lambeth from June 2009 under a new name – 2XL.

2XL builds on previous success of X-it. It is a peer led project working within the community. It works in partnership with the Police, Council and voluntary youth services and the community.

2XL is funded jointly by Young and Safe and the Youth Support Service, through Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP). Its key focus is to divert young people from crime and anti social behaviour and offer them positive life choices.

Aims of 2XL

  • Reduce levels of weapon use and serious crime in a target group of young people identified as being at risk of progressing to more serious levels of crime.
  • Develop young people's self awareness and sense of identity, empowering them towards informed decision-making independent of peer and street culture.
  • Identify and nurture a core group of young leaders who will inform future initiatives addressing this target group.

The project will meet these aims by providing a peer led programme of engagement and support for young people who have been identified as being at risk. There will be an emphasis on supporting young people to get into further education, training or meaningful employment.
