BSF benefits for Lambeth
How does BSF benefit Lambeth?
BSF brings over £280 million in educational funding to Lambeth, providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop innovative teaching and learning environments in the borough.
The overall estate of fifteen secondary school sites in Lambeth is old and requires significant investment and redevelopment if it is to be in a position to supply the education that the borough's young people and parents require and deserve.
Lambeth BSF will address the core issues at the heart of the secondary schools estate. These include school buildings at the end of their lifecycle, buildings not designed for the use of ICT, old fashioned classrooms and buildings not geared up for community use, therefore making it difficult in some cases, to provide a rich programme of extended school activities and family learning
Lambeth's schools current don't have the capacity to meet demand for places within the borough which mean that a large number of mainstream and special education needs students go to schools in surrounding boroughs.
Over the next ten years, BSF investment will be used to tackle these issues and provide:
- over 3,000 more secondary school places
- bright, exciting new buildings, constructed to meet the needs of students, teachers and the community
- improved facilities that will enable the schools to offer a wider range of curriculum activities
- accessible schools compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act and other new legislation
- inspired learning environments, which are safer, more comfortable, and promote learning and positive behaviour
- extensive Information Communication Technology (ICT) services that will enhance teaching and learning
- increased sixth form provision
- increased engagement with local communities through extended schools.
BSF will complement the investment already made in the borough's secondary schools, and support the steady and impressive rise in educational attainment that has been seen in recent years.
