The Michael Tippett School
The Michael Tippett School is both the first Building Schools for the Future (BSF) school in London and the first Special Education Needs (SEN) school to be built under the BSF programme.
The school moved into a new building in Heron Road SE24 in February 2008.
The project recently won the PfS Grand Prix award at the Excellence in BSF Awards 2008, being named as the most innovative and transformational BSF project so far.
Designed by London Eye architects, Marks Barfield, and built by Apollo Education, it will provides 80 pupil places. The school is:
An exemplar of the latest thought in SEN building design, with a dynamic environment and an increased range of opportunities for the students
- Equipped with modern hydrotherapy facilities, a sensory room and environmental designs which incorporates an eco-friendly green roof
- Designed with a therapeutic colour strategy which is appropriate to the needs of the students and a link into the local park
- An extended school, opening
to the wider community

This film is about how The Michael Tippett School in Lambeth moved from its old accommodation to a new building designed and constructed with the needs of the young people in mind. Students at The Michael Tippett School have profound and multiple special educational needs. The building was built under Lambeth's Building Schools for the Future schools building programme.
