Extended services and schools
Developing extended services in schools are a key element of delivering the government's Every Child Matters agenda - a comprehensive change programme across all children's services that is designed to improve outcomes for all children and young people.
Background
The government's extended schools prospectus: 'Access to opportunities and services for all', clearly sets out the aims and objectives for the extended schools programme.
A revised Ofsted framework means that schools will be assessed for the contribution they make to the five Every Child Matters outcomes. The experience of schools is that extended services can significantly enhance pupils' levels of achievement.
By 2010, all children should have access to a variety of extended services in or through their school.
What we are doing
Lambeth's Children and Young People's Service is working with schools and key partners to strategically plan, commission and coordinate extended services. This includes initiatives such as regeneration, capital programmes for school buildings and Every Child Matters linking with and supporting the extended schools agenda.
