Student loans

Students can claim financial support through Lambeth Council for assistance when in Higher Education: including college, university, or lead school if following a course of School-Centre Initial Teacher Training.
Students can also claim for disabled students' allowance and childcare grants.

While in higher education students have two main costs:

  • contribution to tuition fees
  • living costs

Since 1998 full-time students starting higher education have had to contribute towards their tuition fees.
Student loan applications are processed by the Local Authority and then managed by the Student Loans Company.

Full-time students may get all or part of their tuition fees paid. How much help students get depends on their income and that of their family. Some part time students will also get their fees paid for them through their place of higher education.
