Lambeth Music Service

Lambeth Music Service logoThe Lambeth Music Service (LMS) employs over 70 part-time music teachers who provide weekly music lessons to over 3000 pupils in the borough. In addition, 300 students attend one of three regional music centres, in Myatts Field, Clapham and Streatham. Over three-quarters of Lambeth schools access LMS services every year. In 2006 and 2007 LMS was awarded an honourable mention in the National Music Council awards.

LMS has pioneered an innovative programme called Musitrax, providing a 5-year high-quality musical entitlement to all children in a school from reception to Year 4, bringing together the government’s strategies on Sing Up!, Wider Opportunities, Excellence and Enjoyment and Find Your Talent.

LMS also works in partnership with many local and national organisations to provide additional, inspiring opportunities for children to explore their musical interests.

LMS offers:

  • The Musitrax Programme in KS1 and KS2
  • Musitrax Jazz and Musitrax Pop for secondary schools
  • An expanding network of out-of-school music clubs and centres
  • An annual Festival, showcasing the musical achievements of over 2200 pupils from more than half the borough’s schools every year at the Southbank Centre
  • A regular programme of in-service training for class teachers, music co-ordinators and music teachers
  • An on-line resource bank using cutting edge technology for schools.

LMS believes:

  • That it is the right of every child to have a certain level of high quality musical training and experience
  • That fundamental musical concepts can be taught and experienced through a wide variety of musical genres and cultures.
