Returning to Teaching
- Are you a teacher with QTS?
- Are you looking to return to the classroom?
You may have left teaching for any of a number of reasons (to bring up a family, to pursue another career or simply to take a break) - many teachers do and many of them return to the profession.
If you are thinking of returning, the following information will, hopefully, be of help to you.
Registering with the Returning to Teach Programme
The Training and Development Agency (TDA) offers a free-to-join programme for returners. This offers information, advice and support for teachers interested in returning to the profession.
For more information, please visit the TDA website
Returning to Teaching Courses
These courses are designed to update your skills and build confidence before you return to the classroom.
Lambeth does not run courses at the present time; please visit the TDA website for details of upcoming local courses.
In order to be able to enrol on a course, you will need to register with the Returning to Teach Programme.
Courses last for between six and twelve weeks (full and part-time courses are available), and cover the national curriculum, key national strategies, pupil assessment and behaviour management as well as giving a supported school placement, which will give you the opportunity to experience teaching again and to talk in depth with teachers.
Those participating on Returning to Teach courses can be eligible for a training bursary of up to £150 per week and help meeting childcare costs - please visit the TDA website for more details.
Please note that Returning to Teaching courses are not suitable for those teachers wanting to convert from one phase to another (primary to secondary or vice-versa).
Finding a teaching position
Teaching positions can be found in the Times Educational Supplement (TES), South London Press and on the E-Teach website.
