HLTA Specialist Maths, Science and Food Technology Course

This route offers experienced Teaching Assistants (TAs) opportunities to develop their interests and abilities in either Maths or Science. It will also give you an opportunity to support subject specific pupil learning and thus forging links with your school’s maths or science departments.

You will either follow a 12 day training route, which incorporates the subject knowledge element as well as the 3-Day preparation for assessment. If you already have HLTA status, and you work or would like to work within your maths or science department, you can apply to do the subject knowledge course.

The first step is to discuss this with your line manager. Please note that you will need to be working in either the maths or science departments, or will in the future be working in these departments.

Please follow the guidance within the Literacy and Numeracy requirements document in order to meet the professional standards.

To acquire the status you will need opportunities to work within the department, working with individuals, groups and whole classes under the guidance of a teacher.

This is a fully funded Scheme from the TDA administered by Lambeth Authority. TAs wishing to apply for the Specialist Maths and Science will need to read the LA Guidance notes and complete an application form.
