Leaving your dog when you go on holiday
You should make proper arrangements for the care of your dog when you go on holiday.
Boarding establishments
We recommend that you use only licensed boarding establishments. If using pet sitting services, dog sitters should be licensed under the Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963.
Visit boarding kennels beforehand to check that they are suitable. Come prepared with plenty of questions so that you be assured that your pet will be well looked after. Ask others where they take their pet - word of mouth is often the best recommendation.
Friends and family
When using friends or family, ensure that can be trusted to care for your pet. Leave a list of contact numbers including your veterinarian's and insurance details. Also leave a care sheet that details your pet's daily routine, for example what food it eats and how often.
