Public Health and Pest Control

Our in-house service provides a comprehensive range of public health and pest control clearance services.

Our services

  • We deal with pests and vermin including: rats and mice, cockroaches, bed bugs, fleas, and tropical ants. The service covers residential, commercial premises and includes the treatment of whole blocks of flats.
  • We offer services to deal with threats to public health including clearance of rubbish, dead animals, noxious matter, body fluids, rotting food and hypodermic needles. We also clear pigeon mess and undertake pigeon proofing.

Do I have to pay?

Dealing with rats in residential properties is a free service available to all Lambeth residents.

Please contact us for details of current charges for other pest control services.

Council tenants should contact their housing office.

How long will it take?

Our target treatment times aim to eradicate or achieve the best level of control that is technically or practically possible.

Our target times are:

  • Tropical ants: eight weeks
  • Cockroaches: six weeks
  • Rats: four weeks
  • Mice: four weeks
  • Black ants: four weeks
  • Domestic beetles: four weeks
  • Wasps: one week

Please note we cannot guarantee these target times are met in every case.

During busy periods it may be necessary to restrict some of the services we are able to offer.

Factors that can make treatment less effective

Factors that can make treatment less effective include:

  • re-infestation from outside sources;
  • building defects;
  • failure to take preventative precautions or advice on good housekeeping practices; and
  • weather conditions affecting outside treatments - some treatments are not effective against some insect pests before they hatch.

Our service standards

  • We will offer appointment dates within 5 working days of a request
  • We will deal with all matters confidentially
  • We will use the safest and most environmentally-friendly products available for effective treatments
  • We will fully inform our service users of the type of pesticide or chemical used in treatments for pests
  • We aim to answer our public contact telephone numbers within 20 seconds during office hours (9-5).
