Kennington Park nature trail

Kennington Park nature trail logoThe Kennington Park nature trail makes it fun and easy to explore the natural world right on your doorstep.

At eight different points or 'information stations' around Kennington Park, the trail picks out interesting things to see and know - from animals and birds to insects, plants and trees. Anyone can use and enjoy the trail but younger users might get even more from it by following it using the free activity pack which is full of information and games.

The stations are easy to spot and made from natural, reclaimed timber which gives it a unique natural look that's perfect for an urban, Grade II listed park like Kennington Park.

You'll find a main map of the station points within the park, and you can download the activity pack here and the trail map here. You can also download them both using the links at the bottom of this page.

Children's nature activity pack

Nature trail activity packThe activity pack and map, which you can download above or at the bottom of this page, will help children get the most out of the nature trail with some extra fun activities, jokes, a quiz and a poster. You can enjoy it any time of the year, with a picnic in the summer, or soaking up the colours of autumn trees or spring bulbs: there's always something to see and do!

Play in the Park project

The project to promote natural play in Kennington Park has been a community collaboration between The Friends of Kennington Park, Lambeth Council, eight local primary schools, Groundwork London, Trees for Cities and others. Local children helped to create the nature trail and the children's wildlife area. The schools took part in nature workshops and hope to return each year to involve and excite the children about nature, and give them some valuable hands-on experience of plants, birds, mini-beasts and much more.

The Friends of Kennington Park initiated and raised the funds for the 'Play in the Park' project and worked in partnership with Lambeth Council and their contractors Groundwork London to deliver the project. The nature trail and community involvement activities have been funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
