Developments in Brockwell park
Brockwell Park wet play project
A new wet play facility replaces the old paddling pool and provides children with a safe and exiting space for play, exercise and learning. The water features will be active from May 2012 for the normal summer season, although children and parents/carers are welcome to use the rest of the facility in the meantime.
Brockwell Park playground
A new playground is currently being installed in Brockwell Park which not only replaces the old one, but is larger, safer and more stimulating for young children. Works are due to be completed in early May 2012. In the meantime, please keep out of the construction site and respect any fencing or warning notices.
Brockwell Park restoration
Lambeth Council is working with a wide range of partners through the Brockwell Park Management Advisory Committee (BPMAC) to secure the long-term restoration and sustainable development of Brockwell Park.
One aspect of this vision has been securing £3.5 million in July 2008 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) through their 'Parks for People England' grant scheme, which is jointly supported by the HLF and the Big Lottery Fund(BiG).
This grant, match funded with over £1 million from Lambeth Council, will finance the repair, replacement and restoration of the heritage, community and cultural elements of the park, alongside funding from other sources for improving play, sports and access to wildlife.
Ongoing works include relaying paths to make them level and safe, repairing existing toilets, pergolas and shelters and replacing structures such as fences and railings. Proposals for the ponds in Brockwell Park include adding bridges, restoring landscaping and vistas, and selective thinning of trees to improve light and access.
The park's restoration also involves new boundary railings to create a uniform feel to the park and improve safety. Under these same proposals, the entrances to the park at the Lido, on Brixton Water Lane and Arlingford Road will also be enhanced and made more secure.
