Future Brixton
Brixton is a vibrant town centre known for its market, music and distinct style.
Several projects, including the development of a masterplan, a new public space called Windrush Square, and high-profile public arts and creative lighting schemes, will help to regenerate the area and improve the quality of life for local people.
Plans for making big improvements to Brixton town centre over the next fifteen years have been approved by the Council's Cabinet.
Your priorities for Brixton have led to two key themes emerging from consultation - sustainability and retaining the unique character of Brixton.
You can read the Future Brixton masterplan on our 'About the masterplan' page.

Final phase of town centre road works
The final phase of improvement works to Brixton town centre by Transport for London (TfL) are beginning along the Effra Road side of St Matthew’s Church and the Brixton Road / Acre Lane / Coldharbour Lane junction.
The traffic management for this work will reduce traffic along Effra Road to one lane. There will be some lane closures and pedestrian diversions during February and March. Saltoun Road junction with Effra Road will remain closed until the works are completed on Effra Road in early May.
Transport for London (TfL) and Lambeth Council have been working together on this project. For more information on the road works visit www.tfl.gov.uk/windrushsquare or call 0845 305 1234.
Over the summer of 2009 you helped us to decide where in Brixton could benefit from new public artworks. As a result the Future Brixton team has been developing a programme of new art projects across the town centre working with local artists to produce unique art pieces.
You can find out more about the projects on our public arts and creative lighting page.
