Your Future Streatham - Stage 1 consultation
Public consultation took place between 15 April and 5 May 2008. The consultation included the following activities:
These engagement activities provided an opportunity to test research carried out so far and gain a better understanding of people's aspirations for the area.
The events were well attended and people were keen to get involved. All your comments are being fed into the development of masterplan proposals.

Questionnaire
- 21,000 surveys were distributed to all wards in Streatham alongside Lambeth Life
- residents were encouraged to fill in the questionnaire and return them by post or complete them online
- 715 questionnaires were submitted by 5 May 2008.

Workshop at Gracefield Gardens
Over 70 local residents and business owners attended a public workshop on Tuesday 15 April at Gracefield Gardens.
The event was run by the urban design consultants, EDAW, who were commissioned to develop the masterplan.

Most of the workshop took place in small break out groups, in which people looked at some of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the Streatham area.
There were a number of things that people thought made Streatham special - including the people, the green spaces, the architectural variety, and the good transport links. There was clearly a huge amount of affection for the area and pride in its diverse population.
Generally, there was a consensus that Streatham should be improving what it has. The Streatham for the future should be environmentally and family friendly, have a tram link, better sports and arts facilities and better shops.

Roadshow events
The Future Streatham team was out and about hosting a drop-in roadshow at key venues across Streatham.
- Gracefield Gardens Customer Centre on Tuesday 15 April, 12-3pm
- Streatham Mosque on Friday 18 April, time to be confirmed
- Streatham Library on Monday 21 April, 1 - 4pm
- Streatham Leisure Centre on Wednesday 23 April, 5 -8pm.
The drop-in information stalls provided an opportunity for the local community to find out more about the future of the town centre and discuss their regeneration priorities.
Most visitors were eager to share their views on areas for improvement particularly relating to the High Road, the Megabowl site and Streatham Hub and top priorities overall were education and jobs, streets and public spaces and transport.
Congestion on the High Road was by far the most commonly noted problem for the area, with the main issue being the area around ‘the dip’. People would like to see not just a less congested thoroughfare, but a more visually pleasing stretch of road.
The idea of introducing a tram to the area has so far been met positively by most, but is not without skepticism of the potential added congestion and traffic problems that it may bring.
