Norwood Hall
During consultation local people told us that they wanted better health, leisure and community facilities in Norwood.
As a result Norwood Hall was identified as a key project in the Norwood Masterplan, which would provide much-needed facilities from the underused site on Knight's Hill.
December 2011 update
We've been busy over the last few months finalising plans for the Norwood Hall project and will be in a position to make a more detailed statement on Norwood Hall in the new year.
Currently, preparatory works have commenced for the new school, the Julian's Norwood Primary School, on Wolfington Road and we're finalising construction plans for both sites.
January 2011
In January 2011 central government formally endorsed £14.2 million of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) credits towards state-of-the-art services at Norwood Hall. So PFI funding to the scheme will remain subject to approval of the council’s final business case.
The proposals include a new customer service centre, space for community meetings, access to health services, as well as access to well-being services which will include a swimming pool, a gym, and a dance studio.
An artist's impression (see image above) shows what a new centre as well as the enhancement of the green spaces surrounding it could look like.
Planning approved
Development plans for the Norwood Hall site on Knight's Hill in West Norwood were approved at Lambeth's Planning Committee meeting on 29 September 2010. The plans have also been presented without objection before the Greater London Authority and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
A statutory planning consultation was carried out as part of the planning process. Full details of the planning application for the proposed Norwood Hall joint service centre can be viewed here:
Background information and consultation in 2009-10
The council's Cabinet discussed Norwood Hall at a meeting on 14 September 2009. At this meeting a unanimous decision was made to support the scheme. Thank you to those residents that attended the Cabinet meeting in support of this development.
The Primary Care Trust (PCT) and NHS London have also given stage 1 approval for the Norwood Hall development.
During December 2009 two public open days were held at the West Norwood Library where residents were able to see the updated plans for Norwood Hall. Representatives from the council, NHS and AHMM (architects) were at hand to answer any questions, and attendees had the opportunity to provided comments on the plans.
The open days were a success with approximately 120 people attending over the two days. Thank you to everyone that attended, your support and feedback is greatly appreciated.
