Norwood Hall
During consultation local people told us that they wanted better health, leisure and community facilities in West Norwood.
As a result Norwood Hall was identified as a key project which would provide much-needed facilities from the underused site on Knight's Hill.
Norwood Hall has now been demolished and a new 'joint service centre', which will bring a swimming pool alongside other leisure and health services to the heart of West Norwood, is currently being built.
The new site will include better landscaping of the open spaces adjacent to the new development. We will include more information about these elements as soon as it becomes available.
Help us name West Norwood's new leisure and health centre
We need your help to decide on a name for the new leisure and health centre in West Norwood.
Work is well underway at the site on a new public swimming pool, fitness centre, customer service centre and GP and dental surgery. There will also be new meeting rooms for people to use for things like children’s parties, classes and activities like Zumba dancing to get fit. An outdoor play area for older children will feature table tennis tables and a fitness trail.
But what should the new building be called?
We will hold a poll later on in 2013 to choose the name for the new building.
Works well underway
We have been busy over the last few months working to provide residents in West Norwood with a modern leisure and health centre. The new building will include:
- a new public swimming pool
- a fitness centre
- a customer service centre
- a Neighbourhood Resource Centre, which will house community health services, a dental academy and GP services.
A new 'joint service' centre is currently being built alongside the railway lines in West Norwood on Devane Way. The new services are scheduled to open to the public in spring 2014.
The scheme is a partnership between Lambeth Council, NHS Lambeth and developer Building Better Health under the Private Finance Initiative.

Planning approved
Development plans for the Norwood Hall site on Knight's Hill in West Norwood were approved at Lambeth's Planning Committee meeting on 29 September 2010. The plans have also been presented without objection before the Greater London Authority and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
A statutory planning consultation was carried out as part of the planning process. Full details of the planning application for the Norwood Hall joint service centre can be viewed here:
Background information and consultation in 2009-10
The council's Cabinet discussed Norwood Hall at a meeting on 14 September 2009. At this meeting a unanimous decision was made to support the scheme. Thank you to those residents that attended the Cabinet meeting in support of this development.
The Primary Care Trust (PCT) and NHS London have also given stage 1 approval for the Norwood Hall development.
During December 2009 two public open days were held at the West Norwood Library where residents were able to see the updated plans for Norwood Hall. Representatives from the council, NHS and AHMM (architects) were at hand to answer any questions, and attendees had the opportunity to provided comments on the plans.
The open days were a success with approximately 120 people attending over the two days. Thank you to everyone that attended, your support and feedback is greatly appreciated.
