Your Future Streatham
We are developing a masterplan in order to make the most of the opportunities available in Streatham, set out what type of development should happen and help protect and enhance the best things about the area.
We have commissioned EDAW, an urban design and regeneration consultancy, to develop the masterplan, is due to be taken to the council's Cabinet in Summer 2009.
Since April this year local residents and businesses have told us the improvements they want to see in Streatham. There have been three stages of consultation and the most recent consultation was completed in November 2008. You can find out more about the different stages of consultation here and how your comments are being fed into the masterplan for the Streatham High Road area.
About this masterplan
The council has commissioned EDAW, an urban design and regeneration consultancy, to develop the masterplan.
The masterplan covers almost everything that happens in the local area from shopping, entertainment, parks and open spaces to office and business space, transport and the streets themselves. So, if you live or work in Streatham, or even just come as a visitor, it’s bound to affect you.
The masterplan covers the length of the High Road from Streatham Hill station to Streatham station. The masterplan is about creating a sustainable town centre that can attract more investment, more businesses and more customers to maintain it. The masterplan aims to make Streatham a more attractive place to live, work and visit.
Following consultation with residents and local businesses, a series of development options were presented in the Stage 2 consultation and Idea 4 was selected as the preferred option.
Idea 4 will centre large-scale developments around the two train stations, Streatham and Streatham Hill. Major developments could include new housing, offices, shops and public spaces. The section of the High Road between the two train stations would be encouraged to develop as distinct areas- each with their own attractions, and have their own ‘look and feel’ to enhance their existing distinct characters.
You can download the Stage 2 report on the emerging masterplan here. The Stage 3 report will be available to download shortly.
