The 'What's your future Brixton?' consultation
Between August 2007 and March 2008 we asked for your input on the development of the Brixton 'masterplan'. A number of activities and events took place, including market stalls, arts projects, workshops and roadshows. The local community took part in a whole range of events and initiatives, ensuring everyone had a chance to have their say on the future of Brixton.
A number of publications, including two newsletters, were distributed to all residents and businesses in the town centre to promote the consultation. You can download all Future Brixton publications here.
Feedback and participation
Local people were keen to have their say and were passionate about Brixton. For example:
- over 1,500 completed questionnaires
- over 70 people attended one or more workshop
- approximately 250 people came to a roadshow event
- over 70 people attended one of 7 discussion groups
- 80 primary school pupils took part in our schools activity programme
- over 115 in-depth interviews took place at the market stall.
The clear message is that people are keen to see action rather than words and that they would like to see proposals that will lead to an improved quality of life for local people.

Phase 2 – February 2008 to March 2008
After the results had been gathered from phase 1, six specific areas were identified for regeneration in a document called the 'Visioning Framework'. The objective for phase 2 was to consult as widely as possible with residents, businesses and people who work in the borough. Activities included:
The masterplan consultation is now over and we'd like to thank those of you who spared the time to take part.
We anticipate that the draft masterplan will be considered by the council's Cabinet committee in December 2008.
