West Norwood masterplan web forums and focus groups

Web forums

Web forums were used to promote the consultation giving residents details of when, where and how they could engage in the consultation.

In late June and early July 2008 posts were added to the following websites to promote the stage 2 of the Future Norwood consultation process.

Throughout stage 2 of the consultation, the Physical Regeneration team monitored each of the websites.

Key issues highlighted

  • housing
  • retail
  • transport
  • West Norwood’s identity.

What some people said

  • "I think it's so easy to moan and criticise, and that maybe we need to try and be a bit more positive about the future of West Norwood".
  • "Everyone attending the session was keen to see the area improve and all were largely united on the general principles of Option 3".
  • "Everyone agreed that they wanted small scale buildings (nothing over three stories) for both residential and business enterprises, and that all the buildings should be sympathetically designed and ‘smart and chic".
  • "There was general agreement that all building should be in keeping with the area and should complement not detract from existing buildings of interest and focus eg St Luke’s, The Old Library, The South London Theatre and the Cemetery".

Focus groups

Special focus groups were held to see whether there were certain issues affecting particular groups. Businesses were asked how they felt the masterplan could improve trade in the area and young people talked about the issues they faced and what improvements they would like to see.
