Tackling empty shops
We are keen to work with landlords and local business in Streatham and West Norwood to deliver initiatives to improve our high streets and increase footfall and local trade.
The poor economic climate has adversely affected the retail sector leading to increased numbers of empty commercial properties. In Lambeth this is particularly evident in the Norwood and Streatham areas.
A key priority for business growth and the economic quality of life in the borough is to reduce the number of vacant shops by supporting the community and businesses to occupy empty premises, including on a temporary basis. In 2009, this approach resulted in the Brixton Village initiative in partnership with Space Makers Agency.
