The future of waste in Lambeth
What should Lambeth be recycling? Should we have separate food waste and garden waste collections? Should we only empty bins where all the rubbish fits inside it? How much do you think you could recycle?
The government has set high national targets for the recycling and composting of household waste - 40% by 2010, 45% by 2015 and 50% by 2020. Lambeth currently has a recycling rate of 26%. The key challenges we face are how to make managing our borough's waste more environmentally friendly, while at the same time spending less on collection and disposal.
Lambeth is devising a new waste strategy that will cover the next 20 years of recycling and rubbish services in the borough. We want to know what your views are to ensure we come up with the best approach for our borough.
The future of waste - consultation survey
The future of waste survey is now closed. Thank you to all the residents that took part, we received over 2,000 responses!
We are currently gathering together all the data from the surveys, this will take several weeks to complete. When the responses have been sorted and analysed we will publish the feedback on this webpage and in Lambeth Life. We will also be revealing the winner of the laptop from the prize draw!
We aim to announce the results of the survey in December. They will be used to help us make decisions on developing recycling and waste services for the future and what our priorities for action should be.
During the survey process, a number of residents indicated that they would like to be more involved in the Waste Strategy by giving their comments and general feedback, for example suggestions on new recycling initiatives. We are happy to receive all your comments and ideas on waste prevention, recycling and refuse services for the Waste Strategy. Please email them to recycling@lambeth.gov.uk Unfortunately, we will not be able to reply to everyone’s emails, but all suggestions will be considered during the decision-making process.
Keep checking this page for further information on the Waste Strategy and for the survey results in December.
