Recycling for Schools
We provide all schools in the borough with recycling containers and work with them to promote recycling.
Recycling containers in schools
We provide all schools in the borough with recycling containers for free. In addition we provide schools with a box container to transfer the material from the classroom to the recycling bank.
What you can recycle
You can now recycle the same items from school as you can from home:
- All paper, cardboard, Yellow Pages, directories, catalogue and brochures. (Please flatten boxes.)
- All glass bottles and jars. (Please rinse and remove lids. No broken glass please.)
- All drinks cans, food tins and aerosols. (Please rinse tins and ensure aerosols are empty.)
- Plastic bottles only. (Please rinse and remove lids. No other types of plastic, e.g. yoghurt pots or other plastic food containers.)
Who to contact
If you work in a school and would like to have a recycling bank please call 020 7926 9000, or email recycling@lambeth.gov.uk. One of our recycling officers will visit your school to check first where a bin/bank could be kept.
Education programme
We are working with the Recycle Western Riverside on the Recycle at School campaign to promote waste reduction, recycling and buying recycled products in schools.
The campaign aims to make children more aware of the impact that waste has upon the environment. It then encourages them to take action to both reduce the amount of waste they produce and to reuse and recycle more of it.
For more information on the programme, call 020 7939 0796, email education@westernriverside.org.uk or visit Recycle at School section of the Recycle Western Riverside website.
