Taxi cards

The Taxicard scheme offers reduced fares in licensed London taxis and private hires vehicles, for people who have a long term or permanent illness or disability, which prevents them from using or significantly limits their use of public transport.

The cabs in the scheme carry ramps and are accessible to wheelchair user. Please note that the scheme is not available to people who suffer temporary disabilities, for example a broken leg.

The Taxicard may be used for any type of journey, for example shopping, visiting friends and GP appointments.

It is common for Taxicard customers to use part of their allocated trips to keep hospital appointments. Customers can use their Taxicard to make any type of journeys they wish, however we advise against trips to hospital appointments since the health authority can provide free non-emergency transport or cover the cost of getting to hospital to people with restricted mobility.

How does the scheme work?

You contribute £1.50 for each journey made and the council will pay up to a further £12.80 for each journey made. The subsidy that the council pays will vary depending the time of the day you take your trip.

If the cost of your journey exceeds £14.30 (or the maximum allowable of your contribution plus the council's contribution at that time of day), you have to pay the difference.

You must submit two passport sized photographs with the application form along with a photocopy of a proof of identity document and a proof of residence document. Accepted documents are listed in the application form.

You can find further information on the Taxicard website.
