Corporate Parenting Board
The Corporate Parenting Board (CPB) looks at issues that affect looked after children. It is the role of the Corporate Parenting Board to monitor and review services and to establish the objectives and priorities for looked after children by council departments and partner agencies. The central role is to achieve continuing improvements in outcomes for looked after children and care leavers.
The Corporate Parenting Board is chaired by the Lead Member for Children and Young People, and it meets bi-monthly. Membership consists of Councillors, Senior Officers from Cultural Services, Housing, Children and Young People’s Service, Connexions, Foster Carers and children and young people looked after and leaving care.
The membership and involvement of at least six young people on the board is crucial to influence the priorities, council decisions and service developments.
Leadership and governance of the board
The leadership and commitment of elected council members in Lambeth in their role as Corporate Parents, is of critical importance in achieving good outcomes for our children and young people in care. While everyone working with children in care contributes in a shared responsibility to corporate parenting, council members set the vision, allocate the resources and hold officers to account for the delivery of high quality services.
The board will oversee the implementation of the Corporate Parenting Strategy, and with delegated responsibilities to heads of service or senior managers within all departments and partner agencies. The Director of Children and Young People’s Services is ultimately responsible for the delivery of all operations and direct services.
