Post adoption
The adoption support service team offers various services to support adoptive families, their children and birth parents. These services can include advice and information, financial support, links with the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and referrals where necessary to other professionals.
At the present time we have three workers who cover the adoption support services. The team consists of a senior practitioner who specialises in support work with adopters, adopted children and birth families, an intermediary support worker, and a Letterbox coordinator and support work administrator. The team has been operating in a specialised capacity for the past 3 years and the team continues to grow.
The team also manages all indirect and direct contact arrangements, you will have an allocated worker who will assist you with all the arrangements you need to put in place and the direct contact meetings will be organised by your worker. They will also supervise your contact if required, this is to give you the reassurance that you have support in every way you may need it and to ensure that the contact is a positive experience for you as an adopter, your children and the birth parents.
The adoption support service also offers an intermediary service for birth relatives and adopted adults. We have a specialised social worker that covers this area of support and can assist your search and reunion. We are active members of the South London Adoption Consortium who provide support groups for adoptive families and adopted children throughout the year.
