I was adopted through Lambeth over 20 years ago; How can I trace my birth family?

We have a social worker that specialises in finding birth parents that can offer support and advice in tracing and reunions. If we are unable to trace your birth parents we can refer you to some on who can help.

When my child was adopted, a long time ago, I was told that I could send letters. I haven’t written for a long time, but I would like to send one now, can I do this?

Yes, we have a worker that can trace the adoptive family and write to them, informing them that you would like to get in contact.

What is CAMHS?

CAMHS stands for Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services, which are a comprehensive range of services that provide help and treatment.  We support children and young people who are experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties, or mental health problems, disorders and illnesses.

What is NORCAP and how can they help me?

NORCAP offers adults affected by adoption practical help and support to locate and make contact with relatives lost through adoption.
Membership is available through their website: www.norcap.org.uk

What is the Letterbox service?

The letterbox service is a means of birth relatives and adoptive families keeping in contact with each other. Any news that takes place can be exchanged. The Letterbox service is designed to be safe and confidential.

What is a post adoption support service assessment and why would I need one?

You and your family are entitled to a post adoption assessment to discuss any issues that might be affecting your family and advice on the type of support available to you.

What financial support can I receive?

You are entitled to a financial assessment for travel expenses or venues to facilitate contact with your birth relatives, these assessments are means tested.

The South London Adoption Consortium is responsible for the running of support groups.

What is the post adoption centre?

The post adoption centre is an independent charity, which was formed to meet the needs of adults and children experiencing problems that occurred because of adoption. The centre offers a range of services to reflect the complicated nature of adoption.
