Teenage pregnancy poster campaign

Following consultation with young people, a high profile teenage pregnancy poster campaign has been developed as part of the Lambeth Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Board Prevention Agenda. The poster campaign will take place in various sites across the borough in August and in December 2008 (targeted towards alcohol and unprotected sex) and is part of an overall media and communications campaign to raise awareness of the preventing teenage pregnancy agenda.

The key messages of the local campaign fit with the national teenage pregnancy campaign:

  • Alcohol/Drugs – being under the influence of drink/drugs makes you more vulnerable to having unsafe sex
  • Addressing myths
  • Addressing peer pressure
  • Condom Negotiation
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections
  • Information and Advice
  • Boys and Young Men – addressing sexual behaviour

The campaign is part of the Lambeth Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Strategy led by the Lambeth Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Board and its partners who have a target to reduce conceptions by young people under 18 years by 60%, by 2010. Although this rate has decreased it is widely acknowledged that more work needs to be done if this target is to be achieved.
