Altering your council Property

If you want to carry out alterations or improvements to your property and you are a secure tenant, you must get written permission from your local housing office.

If you move after having carried out improvements
You may be entitled to compensation. This depends on how long ago you made the improvements and the type of improvements. Your local housing office can give you more details.

Adapting homes for disabled tenants

Disabled council tenants can seek assistance from our Community Occupational Therapy service, which provides and arranges support to enable people with disabilities to live independently at home. The service can also assist people with minor adaptations to the home, such as grab rails, stair rails and ramps.
