Council estates - parking

Parking controls stop our housing estates being:

  • Used as free car parks by commuters who park their cars and then catch a train or bus to work.
  • Used as a dumping ground for abandoned vehicles.
  • Abused by both commuters, tenants and leaseholders who block entrances, service roads, rubbish chutes and chambers by careless parking.

To do this we are going to bring in parking controls on estates, which will:

  • Stop parking in areas where easy access is essential for any reason.
  • Allow parking in designated areas only for tenants, leaseholders, freeholders and visitors who show a valid parking permit.
  • Allow us to remove all vehicles which block emergency routes and essential routes (such as access to garages, tower blocks and rubbish chambers).
  • Allow us to take away abandoned vehicles.
  • Enforce the conditions of tenancy relating to parking.

A charge for parking permits for residents and their visitors is curently being introduced for both council estate residents and their visitors. Find out more about the new charges.

Free removal and scrap service

We operate a free removal and scrap service for Lambeth residents who no longer want their vehicle. If you are the rightful registered owner of a vehicle and wish to surrender it, please either go into your Local Housing Office with your logbook / VQ5, or post it to your Local Housing Office along with the location of the vehicle and your phone number.

The Environmental Department deals with all clamped, towed and abandoned vehicles on a highway or a main road. The Highways Parking Enforcement Team (TRACE) can be contacted 24 hours a day on phone number 0207 7474747.
