Preventing Homelessness - Outreach

Our outreach work aims to make our services more accessible by taking advice and assistance into the community, through building links with schools, GP surgeries, hospitals and prisons. This is done through regular visits and information surgeries at targeted locations within the community. During these visits we aim to provide information and advice on our homeless prevention services and housing options along with a range of housing issues.

Who is eligible?

Anyone living in Lambeth is eligible for assistance through our outreach team.

What assistance may be provided?

  • Housing advice
  • Housing options appraisal
  • Advice services specific to young people through Connections and colleges
  • Referrals to agencies or services that can help prevent homelessness
  • Our Prison Liaison officers take referrals from prisons or the Probation Service. They offer housing advice, liaise with the Probation Service and can refer clients to appropriate homeless prevention schemes
  • Our Hospital Discharge officers work within hospitals to ensure that hospital discharges are properly co-ordinated. They are available to provide clients with housing advice, information about suitable housing options, and referrals to appropriate homeless prevention schemes

How do I access the service?

  • Young people can access our services through Connections and colleges
  • Prison liaison services can be accessed both in prisons prior to discharge, and at the Drug Treatment and Testing Order in Camberwell
  • Hospital liaison services can be accessed through referral from the hospital prior to your being discharged
  • All Lambeth residents can access outreach services through the Spires Day Centre, located in Tooting

What happens next?

Our outreach officer will conduct an initial interview with you about your specific housing circumstances.

We will then provide housing advice as may be appropriate to your specific needs.

Where necessary we will refer you to appropriate services.

The officers may also be able to provide you with advice on other housing options that might be more suitable to your circumstances.
