Energy efficiency improvements under the Decent Homes programme
In 2000, the Government made a commitment to bring all public sector homes up to a decent standard. This must now be achieved by 2010/11. The Decent Homes Standard states that a "decent home" provides a reasonable degree of thermal comfort. This means that your home must have both effective insulation and efficient heating.
To meet its commitments under the Decent Homes Standard, Lambeth Council is undertaking a programme of improvements to its housing across the borough, including cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, and programmable central heating installation.
These measures will be undertaken in the homes of Council tenants and leaseholders. Housing Associations are also undertaking these energy efficiency improvements as part of the Decent Homes Standard.
Lambeth is currently working in partnership with Powergen to install cavity wall insulation in all suitable properties in Lambeth's housing stock. Therefore if you're a council tenant or leaseholder and your home has unfilled cavity walls (likely if it was built between 1930 and 1990), you'll benefit from cavity wall insulation in the next few years.
