Register for social housing
To apply for social housing in Lambeth (that is, council and housing association homes) you will need to join the housing register.
Lambeth Living tenants please contact your area housing office who will deal with you as a transfer list applicant.
Lambeth Council and housing association homes are let through Choice based lettings. The scheme improves your choices if you are looking for a home as you make your own decision on the property you are interested in rather than the council deciding for you.
Who gets housed?
Please see our information on housing allocations and the points scheme.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately we are not able to offer a home to most of the people who apply to us for housing. Even for those we can help, it may mean that they wait a number of years before being housed. Our housing policy attempts to ensure that those households with the greatest and the most pressing need for housing get housed first, based on a points system.
We currently have 25,865 properties in our rental stock. Additionally, 222,755 homes are managed by 73 housing associations within the borough. There is an average of 21,000 households currently on the housing register waiting for housing. Last year we rehoused 325 housing register applicants.
How do I apply?
To do this you will need to complete a short questionnaire, this will allow us to advise you if it is worth your completing the full application form.
If you have any problems completing online forms please call 020 7926 4200 or visit one of our Customer Service Centres. There are free computers available to use in the Contact Centres and in Lambeth Libraries.
Returning to complete a saved application form
If you are returning to complete a saved application form you will need to complete the pre-assessment questionnaire again, as these are not stored against you application. Please go to the questionnaire. Once you have answered the questions you will be able to enter your reference number and password.
If you have already registered but you have moved or had a change in your circumstances, please complete this form.
If you need to move because of the health or the disabilities of someone you list on the form, you must complete both the housing register form and this medical assessment form.
You must complete one medical form for each person that has a medical condition.
Medical assessment form(s) must either be returned at the same time as the housing register form or, if you have already completed a housing register form, you should quote the registration number on your medical form.
If there is a later change in medical condition, you will need to fill in a new medical assessment form.
Please remember to put your reference number on all forms where applicable to help us with your housing register application.
If you become homeless or need more advice
If you are going to be homeless and have dependent children under the age of 18, a serious medical condition or are over 60 we advise you to arrange an interview with our housing options team on 020 7926 4200.
