Lambeth Housing Strategy 2009 - 2013
Lambeth is a borough facing many challenges. As well as having areas of great prosperity there are also areas of the borough that experience serious deprivation, with many of our residents surviving on a low income and heavily reliant on services from the council.
There are ever growing waiting lists, high levels of over crowding figures, and specific demands from various groups, be they ex-offenders, homeless people or those on middle to low incomes who cannot afford a place of their own.
We believe that housing can act as an important driver for our residents' economic and social well being. The new housing strategy (which replaces the previous housing strategy) highlights our strategic priorities for the next five years.
Consultation with partner agencies and organisations has shaped and influenced the strategy, identifying six key issues, including:
- improving the supply of dwellings in the borough
- improving neighbourhoods
- improving access to housing and supporting vulnerable people in the borough
- mixed and sustainable communities
- tackling worklessness
- empowering residents.
