Planning and environmental issues
We seek to promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of Lambeth and its people. We are committed to the concept of sustainable development and, through the 'Best Value' regime, to the continuous improvement of the services we provide.
Housing sustainability
We are committed to sustainable construction which promotes healthy, secure, warm homes, while protecting the environment. On all major repairs projects we intend to reduce environmental impact, set quality standards and seek low maintenance technical solutions. Lambeth Housing is committed to purchasing all its timber from accredited sustainable sources and is reviewing its reliance on use of PVC due to its significant environmental impact.

Latest Developments
Ethelred Estate in Kennington is the site of the UK's largest green roof project for a refurbishment. 10 buildings are included in the scheme, with over 4,000m² of roof space now covered in sedum plants, breathing new life into the area.
Langholm Close is a block of flats built in the 1970s in Clapham Park, South London. The refurbishment work carried out by Lambeth housing in 2004 showed that it is possible to refurbish our homes in a way which reduces their environmental impact.
Homes at Angell Town are designed to a very high standard and are very energy efficient, which will minimise fuel bills. The new homes at Boatemah Walk also include sustainable features such as solar power and rainwater harvesting.
Our commitment to environmental improvements
We will aim to minimise the environmental impacts of our actions and maximise opportunities for delivering environmental improvements, in line with the council’s corporate plan and its role in developing an environmental charter and community strategy for the borough.
To this end, we will improve our environmental performance and endeavour to influence the behaviour of other organisations and individuals in a positive way.
