The conservation area is characterised by 19th Century middle class villas in mature gardens. They can be detached, semi-detached or set in small terraces and generally have neo-Classical or Italianate detailing.
A formal 'circus' with axial streets adds greatly to the character of the area; so too do the church, numerous mature trees and reinstated traditional railings present in the area.
