Local Development Framework (LDF)

The LDF is a new system for the preparation of development plans, brought into effect by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 in September 2004. An LDF is a folder of documents designed to guide the spatial development of the borough over the next 15 years.

Work on Lambeth's LDF began in January 2008. When it is complete it will replace the Unitary Development Plan (UDP), adopted in August 2007.

The LDF will consist of: the Local Development Scheme, the Statement of Community Involvement, Development Plan Documents, a Proposals Map, Supplementary Planning Documents and the Annual Monitoring Report.

The Local Development Scheme (LDS)

This describes the council's programme and timetable for the preparation of LDF documents.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

A document which describes the way in which Lambeth Council will consult and involve the community and other stakeholders in the preparation of the LDF. It also sets out how it will carry out public consultation on planning applications in the future.

Development Plan Documents (DPDs)

These set out the council's spatial strategy, policies and site proposals for the development and other use of land. In Lambeth, these will include:

Proposals Map

This visually sets out the various policy designations in the DPDs.

Supplementary Planning Documents

These provide additional guidance for making planning decisions, by expanding on policies in the DPDs and providing further detail.

The Annual Monitoring Report (AMR)

A document which reports on the council's progress in achieving the programme set out in the LDS. It also covers the effectiveness of the council's planning policies in achieving set performance criteria.
