Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) provide detailed guidance, further explanation and expand on policies in the Unitary Development Plan (UDP). They can also be prepared to provide specific guidance for the development of sites or to deal with area wide development issues.

SPDs do not have the same status as the policies in the UDP but have been subject to public consultation and are taken into account as material considerations in dealing with planning applications.

Lambeth currently has seven adopted SPDs, these can be viewed below.

You can also see documents associated with the Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs), which include adoption statements, sustainability appraisals and summaries of consultation responses. The S106 SPD has also produced a toolkit.

In addition to the six topic based SPDs, the Council has prepared area guidance for Waterloo and Vauxhall:

  • Waterloo Area SPD – adopted on 8 June 2009 – promotes high density development around the station and a strategy for improving the quality of the environment and local facilities. The SPD plus sustainability appraisal and consultation report are available below.
  • Vauxhall Area SPD – the draft SPD was approved for public consultation on 28 July 2008, and consultation was held during October to December 2008. We are reviewing comments on the Vauxhall Area SPD and the revised version will be reported to Cabinet later in 2009. The draft Vauxhall Area SPD and sustainability appraisal are available below.

Any queries about the draft Vauxhall Area SPD and Waterloo Area SPD can be sent to planningimplementation@lambeth.gov.uk.
