Unitary Development Plan (UDP)
On 6 August 2007 Lambeth Council adopted the new Unitary Development Plan (UDP) 2007. The adopted UDP sets out the planning policies which govern the way that development within the borough is shaped, to encourage balanced and sustainable communities which make Lambeth an attractive place to live in, work in and visit.
The UDP, together with The London Plan, will form the development plan for the London Borough of Lambeth. The development plan forms the basis of decisions on land use planning affecting the area.
The policy team, within the Strategic Planning section of Lambeth Planning, are responsible for developing the UDP in conjunction with councillors. Development Control officers refer to the policies in the UDPs when they are making judgements about whether to recommend a planning application for approval or refusal.
You can view a copy of the Adopted UDP 2007 and an updated version of the Lambeth proposals map which includes corresponding policies and associated information.
An interactive version of the UDP and proposals map is now available online. It can also be accessed through the Planning Portal.
The various stages in the formation of the adopted UDP are set out below:
Copies of the adopted UDP and accompanying proposals map are available for purchase from the Town Planning Advice Centre at Phoenix House (opening hours 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday). The adopted UDP, proposals map and all other documents listed above can be viewed at libraries throughout the borough, and in the Town Planning Advice Centre. Hard copies of some of the documents linked to above can also be purchased from the Advice Centre - please contact them for document prices.
The European Union Directive on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) requires development plans not adopted by 21 July 2006 to be subject to an SEA unless such an assessment is not feasible. The council has considered this issue in relation to the EU Directive, the Regulations, the sustainability appraisal it carried out and other relevant considerations, and has concluded that it would not be feasible. The detailed reasoning is set out in a report to the council's Executive in January 2006:
