Document summary

This document aims to provide a working document to be used to improve the sustainability of both new and refurbished housing in the London Borough of Lambeth.

It deals only with those issues that have a direct impact on sustainability and must be used in conjunction with the client brief and guidance from Lambeth Regeneration and Planning Department. It should also be considered in relation to the authority’s duties to promote energy conservation under the Home Energy Conservation Act 1995.

Many of the measures outlined in this document are achievable at little or no cost and most at only moderate cost. It is judged that these measures are generally affordable within current cost limits subject to a careful allocation of cost and obtaining maximum benefit from improved efficiencies for example in design and procurement methods. Other measures are suggested for consideration only such as solar hot water heating and water recycling and may be affordable in certain circumstances only.
