Verbal and written planning application advice

If you are considering submitting an application to us you may wish to ask us for advice on your proposed developments before proceeding. We offer written and verbal advice through our duty planner and pre-application services.

Before seeking verbal or written advice on potential developments we recommend that customers not familiar with the planning process review some of the information available on ourĀ planning applications pages.

We provide free informal verbal advice on applications for householder developments through our duty planner service. This service is available by phone via our main phone number or by appointment at our Vauxhall office at the address above. The duty planner is available by phone between the hours of 10am and 4pm on weekdays. If you make an appointment to meet a duty planner we recommend you bring some materials (photographs, sketches) that show your existing property and the proposal. This will aid our officers in understanding the work you wish to undertake, enabling them to give more accurate advice.

Customers considering householder type developments can also use our freeĀ pre-application advice service for more formal written advice on their proposals.

If you are seeking advice on other types of development, including house conversions, erection of new dwellings, advertisements and commercial developments you will need to use our paid pre-application advice service.

Please note that any advice given by Council officers in response to general or pre-application enquiries does not constitute a formal response or decision of the Council with regards to future planning consents. Any views or opinions expressed are given in good faith and to the best of ability without prejudice to formal consideration of any planning application, which will be subject to public consultation and ultimately decided by the Council.
