Empty property grant
Who is eligible to apply for empty home grant?
If you own a property in the London Borough of Lambeth that has been empty for six months or more, you are invited to apply for an empty property grant. If you have an outstanding mortgage on the property, please check with your lender before submitting an application.
How much grant is available?
The maximum grant available on a single property is £20,000 or 50% of eligible costs of the works, whichever is the lesser amount. If the property is being converted into self contained flats you may be eligible for a grant of up to £20,000 per flat. You will be expected to meet your share of the costs of the works before the grant is paid.
Who will manage the property when the works are completed?
When the works are completed you will be expected to let the property back to either keyworkers or homeless households. This will be managed by Lettings First and is a condition of the grant. We will expect the house to be at a minimum of the decent homes standard before any grant payment is made and the property let.
What happens if I decide to sell the property
before the five years?
It is a condition of the grant that the property is let on a five-year basis to either keyworkers or homeless households. Therefore the grant will be reclaimed in full if this condition is breached.
Is there anything else I should know?
You will require a technically qualified professional to inspect the property and draw up a schedule of works. In order to proceed with your application we will need two estimates of the works.
