Adults' and Community Services - what we do

ACS delivers quality, cost effective services which are responsive to customers, closer to home, within effective partnerships. We listen to local people and develop improved outcomes for them and their communities.

Adult Social Care

The Adult Social Care division is made up of smaller teams which include Brokerage, Community Safety, Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse.

Adult Social Care provides services to people with mental health problems, learning disabilities, people who misuse substances, people who have a physical disability as well as older people and their carers.

Strategy and Commissioning

This division includes the Active Communities and Customer and Community Relations teams. Overall, Strategy and Commissioning deals with buying in social care services and housing related support for vulnerable adults from a range of suppliers. It does this in conjunction with the Primary Care Trust.

Resources

The Resources division is responsible for business and finance support services. This incorporates finance, including budget preparation and monitoring, income collection, capital, payment and accounting; management information and systems; and administrative and information support. The division is also responsible for improving and managing performance in ACS.

Personalising Services

Personalising Services gives those receiving care more choice and control over the care they receive. The aim is that by being able to choose the sorts of care they receive, users will have more independence and enjoy a better quality of life because their care will be tailored to their individual circumstances.

Self-Directed Support is a pilot project which has been running for adults with learning disabilities over the past couple of years. The impact of self-directed support has transformed the lives of the people involved in the pilot, giving them and their families new flexibility and freedom, and improving their quality of life.

Cultural Services

Cultural Services includes the arts development and 2012 teams. Also included are the parks, events, registrars, cemeteries and crematoria, libraries and archives and sports and recreation teams.
