The Adult Social Care division is made up of smaller teams which include, Brokerage, Community Safety, Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse.

Adult Social Care provides services to people with mental health problems, learning disabilities, people who misuse substances, people who have a physical disability as well as older people and their carers. The division also includes the brokerage service, which organises care services including residential, nursing and domiciliary care. The range of Adult Social Care services include assessment and care management, day care provision, intermediate care, re-enablement and education and training opportunities.

Brokerage

The brokerage team are responsible for purchasing and monitoring packages of care after an assessment of needs is undertaken by care management. Requests for domiciliary help to continue living at home as well as nursing and residential care are received from care management teams. The brokerage unit is responsible for purchasing these services from a wide range of providers. The team purchases services that are of good quality and value for money and that meet the needs of the service users. Services which can be purchased include domiciliary care, meals on wheels, shopping services, transport, residential care and nursing care.

Community Safety

Police community support officers in marketThe Community Safety Team is a key member of the Safer Lambeth Partnership and works, in partnership with a range of other agencies, to make Lambeth a safer place to live, work, and visit.

The partnership is made up of the council, police, probation service, primary care trust, and a range of voluntary and community organisations.

Community Safety work on a range of issues including anti-social behaviour, hate crime, domestic violence, victims and witnesses, young people and violent crime and prevention of drug and alcohol abuse on both a strategic and geographical basis.

Integrated Mental Health Service

The Integrated Mental Health Service provides information, advice and services for people who:

  • have been diagnosed as having severe mental illness or mental disorder
  • have a severe or persistent illness which gives rise to a history or likelihood of repeated relapse, a history or likelihood of severe social disability, a severe risk of suicide, self harm, self neglect or a serious risk of danger or violence to others
  • have a severe personality disorder and associated social difficulties
  • are caring for someone with a mental illness.

Substance Misuse

The Substance Misuse Team works with people who need help overcoming drug and/or alcohol dependency. The team assesses clients with serious drug/alcohol problems and provides care packages which may include funded residential or day programmes. The aftercare team works with people who have recently left treatment or have come out of the criminal justice system and wish to get into training, education, leisure and other mainstream activities.
