Careers and educational advice

The careers guidance service is a free service for Lambeth residents who are 20 years old and older.

We offer information and guidance on courses that could help you progress your career, as well as advice on how to get a job.

We are also able to advise on local adult educational courses available in your area, which can help you to learn a new skill or pursue a hobby.

There are two types of guidance sessions that we offer:

Drop-in sessions

You are welcome to drop in any time for an information and advice session. Drop-in sessions last up to 20 minutes, during this time we will:

Assess your current position

We will look at your current employment situation, your career so far and where you would like it to progress.

Discuss your careers and educational options

Once we have discussed what you would like to do in future we will be able to advise you on how you can find out about jobs in your chosen profession. We can also advise you on any qualifications you may need or any courses that might help your progress.

If required we will offer you a full guidance session to provide you with further advice and information.

Full guidance sessions

A full guidance session must be booked in advance, either in person, perhaps during a drop-in session, or over the phone on 020 7926 3324. You must live in Lambeth in order to access this service.

Full guidance sessions last an hour and can include:

Explaining career options and information

We can help you to look at your options for the future and suggest educational and training courses which will help you to get the job you want.

Help with job application forms

We can discuss how to fill in application forms with you, giving pointers on what an employer may be looking for and giving advice on how to present your experience in the best light.

Job search advice

We can advise you on the best way to go about looking for a job, from the publications and websites that might have the right job for you, to agencies that specialise in jobs in your chosen field.

Help with CV preparation

We can give you advice on writing your CV, from tips on how to lay out your CV to advice on what you should include.

Guidance on interview techniques

We can help you to prepare for interviews by advising you on what to expect in an interview, including common questions you may be asked.

Computerised guidance packages

We have an in-house software package that we can show you how to use that can help you to generate ideas as to what sort of work you would like to do.
