Funding in the arts
One of the most common requests we get for information is for advice on funding. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers, but here is a brief overview of some of the main funding bodies for the arts along with contact details and some useful websites.
For information on current funding opportunities visit the funding news page.
An invaluable source of information on funding is the book "The Arts Funding Guide" by Susan Forrester and Graeme Manuel (ISBN 1 900 360 60 8). It has information about all the major funding bodies as well as an extensive list of addresses for trusts, charities, European funds etc.
Another useful resource is www.funderfinder.org.uk. This site has a downloadable section called "Apply Yourself", a programme that guides you through the process of completing a grant application. This site also has links to trusts and other fundraising resources.
Lottery Funding bodies
Arts Council England administers the largest funding pot for the arts with grants for the arts for individuals and organisations. There is a dedicated grants phoneline from which you can request an application form or seek further advice about grants for the arts on: 0845 300 6100.
One of the main funding bodies in the UK is the lottery. Lottery grants are broken down into a number of strands so it is worth carrying out a little research to make sure you are applying for the most suitable grant.
A general overview of lottery funding is available on the National Lottery Good Causes website or by phoning the Lottery Funding line on 0845 275 0000
Sponsorship
Sponsorship is another way of getting your project funded. Advice on how to raise sponsorship is available from Arts & Business who run excellent workshops on this topic.
