Dance4Life Workshop Facilitators

Every year, Dance4Life delivers a 3 week college tour. A trained tour team of 6 dynamic and dedicated people will visit 30 colleges in November. Each workshop is 2 hours long,with audiences up to 300 young people, aged 16 and over. The tour is made up of Dance facilitators, HIV peer educators, young activists from developing countries, and young people affected and infected with HIV. 

They are now seeking to recruit energetic 2 tour dance facilitators to join us on this tour. If you have a background in facilitating performing arts and you are capable of inspiring young people to join a campaigning movement, they would like to hear from you.

Location:
Travelling around Southern UK focusing on London and home counties.
Duration: 4weeks (27 October – 21 November); plus one day- Dance4life International Event (29th November)
Salary: £300 per week. In addition accommodation, transport and a food allowance are provided throughout the tour.

Youth Board members

The Southwark Playhouse are enrolling young people between the ages of 12 – 18 years old to be a member of their Youth Board.

The Youth Board will contain 7 – 9 young people which will appear as ambassadors to represent Southwark playhouse. Successful applicants which will be members of the Youth board will:

  • receive the opportunity to learn new skills from the theatre professionals
  • give their opinion on our events and ideas
  • help to fundraise for the young people’s events
  • meet new people, share skills and socialize.

They have decided to choose the young people in the community because they would like them to participate.

Editor, LITRO Magazine

LITRO, London's free short story magazine, is looking for an editor to drive submissions, select content and maintain the website/email list. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the running of a magazine with a distribution in excess of 50,000 copies per month. Main responsibilities include:

  • Soliciting and selecting material (calling for submissions, contacting publishers, creating excerpts from already published material, liaising with authors, for example accepting/rejecting work and securing rights)
  • Maintaining website (laying out issues for display online, updating with new stories, updating news, adding banner ads, etc.)
  • Maintaining email list and writing/sending mailouts

The role would be perfect for someone with an understanding of magazine/fiction publishing who is keen to increase their experience and contacts in the industry. Competition for a British Bridal Sari

The British Sari Story 2008 competition is offering a £250 top prize for a design for a British Bridal Sari.

Traditionally bridal saris have fantastic beading and embroidery from south Asia but they looking for something new - British beading, embroidery and embellishment, reflecting British Asian experience in the UK.

Send a piece of fabric (about 20cm/8 inches square) decorated with your patterns and needlework. Please submit, too, a statement explaining the thinking behind your work and a sketch showing how you envisage this bridal sari would be worn.

Finalists' work will become part of the British Sari Story touring exhibition, celebrating British Asian life today. Winners will be announced when the exhibition opens in Loughborough in October 2008.
