New lighting and signage for Brixton Recreation Centre

Proposal for Brixton Recreation Centre lighting and signage project, by Amenity SpaceThe Brixton Recreation Centre lighting and signage project has been commissioned by Lambeth Sports and Recreation Service and Lambeth Arts as part of a scheme of improvements to the centre. 

Architects Amenity Space have been commissioned to produce a new sign and light sculpture that will be installed at the leisure centre’s main entrance to create a warm welcome for the centre’s users.

Hundreds of tiny LED lights will be placed on panels to create the sculpture, which will react to movement inside the centre.

Boat-shaped art at White Hart Dock

Proposal for the White Hart Dock, by Handspring Design LtdThe White Hart Dock Public Art Project was commissioned by Lambeth Arts in partnership with Transport Planning and Strategy with s106 funding as part of a package of wider environmental improvements. Artists Handspring Ltd were selected by a panel comprising council officers and local residents following an open competition. The project also featured an extensive community engagement programme that brought local people into the creative process and highlighted the heritage of the White Hart Dock and surrounding area.

The new artwork was launched in October 2009.

Coldharbour Lane and Somerleyton Road Green Space Public Art 'Twins'

Proposal for Coldharbour Lane, "Twins" by Taslim MartinPublic artist Taslim Martin, was selected by a panel through an open competition process and has been leading creative workshops with schools, community groups and local arts organisations in the Moorlands Estate area.

The artwork entitled 'Twins' consists of two geometric forms, one highly polished, the other with a rust patina.  Etched into the surface of the steel forms will be abstract designs, patterns and symbols created by local people who participated in the community engagement programme.
