The following are events and activities that are taking place in Lambeth libraries.

We have organised them into three categories, current events, major council events, and other annual events.

Lambeth Libraries Summer Reading Challenge

Space HopEnter Lambeth Libraries intergalactic reading challenge this summer and join Jessie, Nabil and Willco to take a consignment of books to the moon to set up the very first Lunar Library. As you travel to the moon, collect prizes along the way.

New this year are the specially designed Space Mungler Trump cards by Blue Peter 2010 book award winner Guy Bass. There seven characters: Stinkity, Grorchy Grum, Slimation, Smogus Smoghorn, Oggly Boggly, Igotha and Miggles, making a total of 21 cards to collect

In order to be part of the reading challenge, you need to be a member of the library but don’t worry if you are not, it's easy and free to join. Just get your parent or guardian to take proof of their name and address to your local library and sign up today.

Upper Norwood Joint Library

Upper Norwood LibraryThe UK's only independent public library has a full calendar of activities throughout the Summer, including the Summer Reading Challenge for children, author visits, storytimes and storytelling in the park.

Radio Drama Writing Course

Dates: 6 Mondays from 13 September
Time: 7pm - 8.30pm

Lucy HackneyThis is an introductory course of 6 sessions exploring ways to use sound, music, dialogue and to develop character and build structure. You will get to listen to clips and read scripts of broadcast dramas then debate what works well and what doesn't and explore new creative territory with informal in-class writing exercises

Who's this course for? This is an introductory course for adults. You don't need to be familiar with radio drama yet, but should listen to several before the course.

Who teaches the course? Lucy Hackney has worked in radio and TV drama for 20 years. She has produced radio plays for BBC Radio 4, Radio 3 and the World Service and edited more scripts than she cares to remember.

Deborah Bestwick, Director Oval House Theatre

Oval House TheatreDeborah Bestwick tells how a cutting edge theatre evolved from a 1930s philanthropic social centre. She will be talking about the theatre's history and its trials, tribulations and triumphs.

Lambeth Archives open day 2010

Lambeth Archives open day is an annual opportunity to get to know one of the less-well known but arguably one of the most fascinating of Lambeth Council's services.

Lambeth Palace Library: The first 400 Years

Date: 18 October

This year sees the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of Lambeth Palace Library. In this illustrated talk, Giles Mandelbrote, the Librarian and Archivist, will explore the historical background and describe highlights from the recent exhibition, which charted the growth of the Library's collection over the past 400 years.

Paola Minekov Exhibition

The Survey of London in South London

The Survey of London is one of the capital's best kept secrets. Over 100 years old and still going strong, it takes a complete district and looks in depth at the history and architecture of every street. This illustrated talk by local resident Andrew Saint will focus on its work in South London, including Lambeth.

BBC Breathing Places library project

BBC Breathing PlacesBreathing places is a three-year campaign from BBC Learning, which aims to get 1 million people involved in nature and their local environment. Lambeth Libraries are pleased to be able to join the BBC in this campaign.

Major council events


October

Black history month - Events arranged throughout our libraries, aimed at both young and old.

Celebrating Age - Again a variety of activities throughout the borough's libraries and usually an event in the assembly hall of the town Hall - we work closely preparing this event with Age Concern Lambeth.
