Short stories

Lambeth libraries have recently invested in great new short story sections – if you like short stories visit your local library to see the difference.

Notes from the Underground

The latest short story website to hit London is Notes from the Underground - featuring poetry, short stories and non-fiction. The short stories are available as a download or podcast from the website or in hard copy from Central London tube stations.

LITRO – Original Fiction for the Underground

We have teamed up with LITRO – Original Fiction for the Underground to give you a new commissioned short story every week.

LITRO is a literary alternative to Metro (the free newspaper) and is handed out for free each Friday near to London Underground stations. Now you can access them direct online or from your local library.

Celebrating the short story

The Arts Council and Book Trust are also leading the campaign to celebrate the short story. Their publicity states:

"We believe that the short story is one of the most exciting and important literary forms, and that it can and should reach the widest possible readership. We believe that the short story matters."
