Wet changing area refurbishment project
The refurbishment of the wet changing area began in January. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the work to improve the changing rooms facilities and wish to assure you that we are doing everything we can to bring the changing facilities back into use as soon as possible.
The swimming pool will remain open during this period with a revised pool timetable.
Alternative male and female swimming changing rooms will be provided on level 6 and this will include a new route onto poolside. Other centre changing rooms on level 4 will be available for all other centre users.
The project will allow a number of improvements to the area which includes increased family changing and direct access onto poolside, new flooring, new lockers and cubicles, pre-entry showers, dedicated vanity area and an increased health suite area.
Updated information will be displayed within the centre and on the council and GLL websites.
Opening times
7am to 10pm, Monday to Friday
8am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday

Facilities
The facilities include:
- indoor bowls area
- changing rooms
- climbing wall
- dance studios
- fitness gym
- health suite - sauna and steam rooms, available as single gender sessions
- programmable fitness gym - including specific DDA - specially adapted equipment for disabled users
- team zone - indoor football pitch
- social and meeting rooms
- sports hall - eight badminton courts
- five squash courts
- 25m swimming pool
- teaching swimming pool.

Refurbishment of Brixton Recreation Centre
Brixton Recreation Centre, Lambeth's flagship leisure centre, is a vibrant and friendly family venue which will benefit the whole community for many years to come.
Greenwich Leisure Ltd have been the contractors running Brixton Rec since April 2007. They are a social enterprise that manages over fifty leisure centres within the M25, including centres in Camden, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham. As a social enterprise, they invest any profits their leisure centres make into improving the facilities and services they offer.
What facilities are available in the refurbished centre?
Crèche and Play Zone
On level three there is a crèche and children's Play Zone for younger children.
The Zone
With the capacity to provide activities for up to 200 young people at any one time, The Zone comprises three areas: the Energy Zone, Fitness Zone and Team Zone.
Energy Zone (for ages 5 to 15)
The Energy Zone is an area packed full of interactive games for children to play including:
- interactive tizzball - a new game where children play in teams and throw balls at targets which light up
- sportwall - a target wall where children score points by turning off lights
- football and basketball - teams can play on the computerised pitch that cheers teams on and scores automatically
- track and field - with a running track, high jump and long jump
- climbing wall.
Fitness Zone (for ages 8 to 15)
The Fitness Zone is an adult free area where children can get fit in a safe and fun environment. They can choose from:
- SHOKK fitness equipment designed especially for under 16s
- computerised dance mats
- exercise classes such as aerobics, yoga and street dance with a virtual instructor.
Team Zone (for all ages)
The Team Zone is a state-of-the-art third generation football pitch with artificial grass so whatever the weather outside games can go ahead.
Climbing wall
Traverse, different routes dependant on ability. Taster courses and lessons are available.
Fitness Centre
- The new fitness centre features state-of-the-art technology and all the latest equipment, including a dedicated exercise bike area, and a separate programmable fitness gym.
- There is also a dedicated resistance area with an additional stretch area for Swiss balls, medicine balls, core boards and free weights.
Health Suite
The health suite offers separate Sauna and Steam room facilities.
Changing rooms
Refurbished pool side changing rooms and dry changing facilities for the Zone, fitness centre and general dry sports use.
