Streatham Leisure Centre closes due to health and safety concerns

We have taken the difficult decision to close Streatham Leisure Centre after investigations by structural engineers raised concerns about the condition of the building.

We closed the swimming pool in December 2009 after problems were identified with the ceiling, but further investigations have revealed more widespread structural problems in the building.

The safety of users is our paramount concern and therefore we have taken the difficult decision to close the Leisure Centre for the foreseeable future while further investigations take place to find out the extent of the work needed. In the meantime, you are asked to use the borough's other Leisure Centres in Brixton, which are accessible by bus from Streatham.

Alternative arrangements for schools, swimming clubs and swimming lessons are being arranged. Other users may access swimming facilities at Brixton Recreation Centre during the period of Streatham's closure. Current REAL Wellness and REAL Swim members will also be able to use their cards for swimming at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre during the closure.
